A fine early 20th-century silver-mounted glass match striker, hallmarked for A. Barrett & Co., Birmingham, 1924.

The clear ribbed glass body is of classic spherical form, designed for striking matches, with a plain sterling silver collar neatly fitted to the top. The mount is clearly hallmarked with the maker’s mark AB & Co, together with the Birmingham assay mark, lion passant, and date letter Z for 1924.

A good quality example combining practical function with refined period design — an attractive accessory for the desk or mantelpiece.
