A beautiful and authentic British Arts & Crafts inkwell dating from around 1900, crafted in copper and featuring an attractive hinged cover decorated with vibrant polychrome enamel work. A fine example of Arts & Crafts design, displaying the movement’s characteristic emphasis on craftsmanship, decorative detail, and functional beauty.
The warm copper body develops a rich aged character and natural patina, perfectly complementing the colourful enamel decoration to the lid. The inkwell retains its original glass liner, a desirable surviving feature often missing from examples of this age.
The hinged lid opens and closes well, and the piece remains unmarked, which is not uncommon for British Arts & Crafts metalwork of the period.
